Not all athletes are sweet-as!

Recipes

Not all athletes have a sweet tooth.

Some athletes certainly have a more savoury palate making it tricky to find something that will hit the sports nutrition spot.

These Mite-y Cheese Scrolls are sure to cover post-exercise savoury cravings especially while still warm from the oven.

And if you have a big team to feed – this recipe will be sure to feed the whole team and a few cheerful supporters on the sideline too! It makes a whopping 40 scrolls.

And if your team is not-so-big – the scrolls freeze well in an air tight container. Just pop them in the microwave for 20seconds to de-frost and make them taste like they have just come out of the oven!

INGREDIENTS

1 litre lukewarm water

1 Tbsp dry yeast

1 tsp oil

½ tsp iodised salt

8 cups high grade flour

FILLING

100g melted butter

2 Tbsp Marmite or Vegemite

1½ cups tasty cheese

Mix the water, yeast, oil, salt and allow to stand for 15 minutes for the yeast to activate.

Mix in the flour and allow to double in size (approximately 40-60mins).

WHAT TO DO

Pre-heat the oven to 190˚C fan bake.

While the dough is proofing, put the butter and Marmite in a glass jug and melt in the microwave for approximately 1minute.  Mix well.

Cut the dough in half and roll out one half at a time on a floured bench to approximately ½-1cm thick.

Brush the butter and Marmite mixture on to the dough using a pastry brush. Roll up from one longest side to the other and cut the roll into 1-2cm scrolls using a sharp knife.

Place the scrolls on a greased tray and bake in the oven for 18-20mins.
